The Centre for Cross Border Studies in partnership with the North South Ministerial Council Joint Secretariat manages the Border People website - www.BorderPeople.info. Border People provides an online signposting service for people who wish to move across the Irish border to live, work or study. This website includes information on issues such as taxation, social security, job seeking, health, banking, education, housing and telecommunications.
As part of this initiative we hold regular seminars which address particular barriers to cross-border mobility which previously has included cross-border banking and consumer issues.
The next seminar which will take place in Dundalk will look at issues facing frontier workers and businesses located in the border region.
- Is the border a barrier to employment?
- What are the obstacles to employment for those living in the border region?
- Are there benefits to be had from crossing the border to work each day?
- What are the issues for businesses working across the border?
The speakers confirmed so far, Joe Lavery, Coordinator and Michael Carr (former Coordinator) EURES Cross-border Partnership and Lisa Fagan, Chartered Accountant, John McMahon & Co. have a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in this area.
Organisations involved in the provision of cross-border information or individuals with an interest in specific aspects of cross-border employment are welcome to attend and your input would be most welcome. Feedback from participants is invaluable in helping us to shape the content of the Border People website as we continue to develop.
