The Centre for Cross Border Studies in partnership with the North South Ministerial Council Joint Secretariat manages the Border People website - www.BorderPeople.info.  Border People provides an online signposting service for people who wish to move across the Irish border to live, work or study.  This website includes information on issues such as taxation, social security, job seeking, health, banking, education, housing and telecommunications.

As part of this initiative we hold regular seminars which address particular barriers to cross-border mobility which previously has included cross-border banking and consumer issues.

The fourth seminar took place in Dundalk will look at issues facing frontier workers and businesses located in the border region.

The speakers confirmed so far, Joe Lavery, Coordinator and Michael Carr (former Coordinator)  EURES Cross-border Partnership and Lisa Fagan, Chartered Accountant, John McMahon & Co. have a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in this area.

Organisations involved in the provision of cross-border information or individuals with an interest in specific aspects of cross-border employment are welcome to attend and your input would be most welcome.  Feedback from participants is invaluable in helping us to shape the content of the Border People website as we continue to develop.

Other invitees include representatives from the North/South Ministerial Council Joint Secretariat; Citizens Advice Northern Ireland and Citizens Information Board; The Department of Social and Family Affairs and other Government Departments, North and South; the Special EU Programmes Body and the Cross Border Bodies; EURES Cross-Border Partnership, NI Enterprise Agencies, border County Enterprise Boards and Chambers of Commerce; and border Community and Voluntary Groups.

WHAT THEY SAY…

I applaud the Director, Andy Pollak, and his team on a tremendous record of achievement over well nigh 12 years. Pages 112-173 of the Journal, on the Centre’s work, show just how far-reaching and significant is its range and how it touches on areas so relevant to the quality of our future on the island. I saw this at first hand through my involvement for several years in a highly innovative programme it ran for the training of personnel engaged in cross-border policy or operations. The Centre’s Journal typifies the quality of excellence which the Centre brings to all that it does. Beautifully produced, a pleasure just to handle but, most important of all, a treasure chest of highly readable articles written to the highest professional standards. Start any of these articles and you will become hooked. And not just hooked, but challenged, because these articles irresistibly prompt the response: What must be done about this? — Sir George Quigley, Chairman, Bombardier Aerospace
